Ryan is the 2010 EGALE Queering Black History Month honoree, and has also won awards and grants for Arts & Culture from the City of Toronto, the Community One foundation, the City of Mississauga, the LGBTQ Youthline, and Music Theatre Mississauga.

One of the founders of the ARTWHERK Collective!, he combines clear themes of identity, blackness, and gender with ferocious live vocals , outrageous costuming and kinetic movement.    His performances have been described as "dazzling" (Susan G. Cole, Now Magazine), "thrilling" (Robin Sharpe, BlogTo.com), and “totally diva....Queen Jadis of Narnia meets James Brown” in Eye Weekly.  Xtra has praised his “fierce theatricality”  and he has been cited as "one of the hardest-working queer artists in Toronto" in fab magazine.   New York Times’ Theatre Critic John Simon famously wrote Ryan “seems to come from a freak show” in a Broadway.com review.

Ryan has appeared multiple times on the covers of Xtra, No More Potlucks, and Trade and has been seen nationally on everything from MTV News to The Camilla Scott Show.
